Hey there!
Last week Wednesday and Friday, myself and a squad of 5 family members from Texas and California made our way to Louisiana to celebrate my daughter’s graduation from college.
Upon arrival, we were met with love and open arms from our new family in New Orleans. Southern hospitality ruled our days/nights and we had a blast!
On day one, my sister, niece and I, grooved to the melodies and soulful vibes of Floetry, who performed at the House of Blues as a part of their “Reunion” tour. It was nothing less than amazing! Their messages in song, spoke to my heart. The Floasist’s rendition of “You gotta let it go, so you can breathe,” made me take inventory of my life.
Day two was busy, as I accompanied Ashleigh to prep for her graduation with culmination practice, nail and hair appointments! The big day was next and what a joyous occasion it was! She graduated with a BA in Mass Communications (Print Journalism) and honors (3.3 GPA).
Saturday, we visited Lakeshore Drive along the Ponchartrain River for a family picnic and I got my first taste of crawfish!
On the last full day in NOLA, we all ventured in the French Quarter for a brief photo shoot. That’s what style blogger’s do, right? My daughter, Ashleigh acted as photographer and my niece, Maya stood in as the creative director. The rest of the tribe cheered me on!
This whole experience was worth every second, minute and hour taken to enjoy the fullness of love, laughter and family that surrounded us all.
A very special note, specifically to empty nesters trying to find their way after investing so much into the lives of their children: pray for your purpose (if you don’t have one) and live in that sweet spot; be present! In other words, live your life with no regrets!
