Happy Sunday, Stylistas! It is amazing how trends come and go. I can clearly recall the many times my mother would say to me when I was a teenager, and wearing a certain outfit or shoe, “I used to wear that style back when..”
Today, I find myself saying the same thing to my children. Know that there is nothing new under the sun. But aside from fashion trends, what is important is that we have classic staples in our wardrobe. Items that are TIMELESS, like the penny loafer.
The penny loafer is a unisex shoe that made its debut as a moccasin in Norway in the 1930’s. As a teenager in the 1980’s I wore them with jeans, button down shirts and made sure I placed real pennies inside the little space on top of the shoe. The penny loafer was also popular in the 1950’s, known to be associated with the male “preppy” look, and the flouncy poodle skirts for females.
I found myself shopping online a few days ago (and you know how it is), sometimes you find yourself looking with no real intention of buying anything, and then you run across an item you just can’t pass up. If you are looking for an inexpensive, beautiful penny loafer, go online to ZARA or to your local store.
